Summary:Since the Nd3(Fe,Ti)29 phase with monoclinic symmetry and space group A2/m was discovered, much attention has been paid to the substitution of Co for Fe in R3(Fe,TM)29 intermetallic compounds. Recently, it has been shown that in 3:29 compounds Co substitution has a significant effect on their structural and magnetic properties, especially on the nature of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Normally, substituting Co for Fe up to 40% results in the formation of the corresponding 3:29 phase (R=Sm; M=Mo). On the contrary, the synthesis of R3(Fe1-xCox)29-yMy with x>0.4 has been proved to be possible only when using a large amount of stabilizing agent such R=Sm, M=Cr with y=4.5-7. For more than 40% Co for Fe substitution when the amount of the stabilizing atom is low (f.e. y=1.5) a disordered variant of the hexagonal Th2Ni17-type structure is formed. Uniaxial anisotropy has been observed in the case of Sm. In this investigation structural and magnetic properties of Sm3(Fe1-xCox)27.7Ti1.3 (3:29) (x=0-0.4) are presented.
